INside(s)

Salvaged fabric, yarn, found objects, ink.

63" x 51"

2022

Inside(s) focuses on the impacts of the invented ‘obesity epidemic’, diet culture, and inherited anti-fat bias on women, AFAB, queer and, femme people. In this piece I explore my relationship with my mother and how the unspoken rules of starvation culture are taught and mirrored in the domestic sphere. The space created by draping the textile collages is meant to invite simultaneous grieving and celebration- for all of the potential joy, pleasure and comfort that has been stolen from fat people and for all that is possible when we find liberation from that restriction. These are my insides.
